Brazil is a little different from its latin neighbours. The country being a federation, each state has the power to decide on its own restrictions, and various state governors are openly disagreeing with the central government, leading to many different situations among the country.
Local rules
For instance, the state of São Paulo is, since January 1st, back to the ‘red level’ of their pandemic plan, given the increased infections, during the first weekend of the year 2021, with most stores being closed and people required to stay at home. The general state of lockdown has also been extended until February 7.
For New Year’s Eve celebrations, local decisions (such as the closing of the beaches in Rio de Janeiro) were generally well obeyed.
The school year has ended in December, remotely, and decisions are yet to be confirmed for the start of the new school year by end of January.
Federal rules
As of December 30th, for travelers flying to Brazil, it is mandatory to fill out a health declaration form and to present a negative PCR test result, dating less than 72 hours prior to boarding. Passengers without test will not be allowed to enter the country. These rules apply both for Brazilians and foreigners.
